Plant Material is the first full-length album from Sand Duney, the project of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jess Jones. Plant Material explores a deepening of selfhood, love, and understanding the natural world. The sonic landscape of Plant Material is as lush and complex as the ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest that Jones writes about. She also writes about the practice of care and love in both creative practice and long-term partnership. Both require dedication and presence. So does finding hope and a daily rhythm in a world that’s changing in massive and indecipherable ways. Jones played every instrument on the record, including pedal steel, acoustic and electric guitar, bass, organ, drums and vocals. She recorded and mixed the record herself at home in Portland, OR and Missoula, MT. The result is a record that moves and sounds like water through a deep canyon, every layer guiding us somewhere new.
