Listen to the title track from Claire Cronin's new album, Bloodless, out November 12, 2021 Posted 07 Sep 2021

Bloodless is the new album by Los Angeles-based musician and writer Claire Cronin. Expanding upon the supernatural and metaphysical themes of her critically acclaimed 2019 album Big Dread Moon and her 2020 “horror memoir” Blue Light of the Screen (published by Repeater Books), Bloodless is a powerful work of haunted Americana by one of contemporary indie music’s finest singer-songwriters.

Like its musical predecessor, Big Dread Moon, the arrangements on Bloodless’s nine songs are stripped and sparse, Cronin’s steady electric guitar and spectral voice holding center as strings and synthesizers provide wisps of eerie atmosphere. The sound of Bloodless is both more visceral and more subliminal than Big Dread Moon, due in equal part to months of intensive home recording by Cronin and Ezra Buchla (Cronin’s husband and violist) and expert mixing by Deerhoof’s John Dieterich (who previously collaborated with Cronin on her 2016 album Came Down a Storm).

Flood Magazine announced Bloodless's November 12 release & premiered title track "Bloodless" this morning, describing the song as a "spectral, near-ambient track treading through ideas of escaping one’s body." You can read the announcement & listen to "Bloodless" HERE.

Watch Macie Stewart's video for "Garter Snake" Posted 11 Aug 2021

Chicago-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Macie Stewart (pronouns: she/her/they/them) has shared “Garter Snake,” the second single & video from her debut solo album, Mouth Full of Glass, out September 24 on Orindal Records.

Following last month’s release of Mouth Full of Glass’s first single, “Finally,” “Garter Snake” is another chamber folk stunner. Fingerstyle classical guitar, organ, piano, violin & sighing harmony vocals build slowly, weaving their way around a serpentine saxophone melody (courtesy of fellow Chicagoan Sen Morimoto). Stewart sings “New, alone, and awake, I am a garter snake” over the song’s chilling crescendo.

The “Garter Snake” music video was filmed in the striking western landscapes of Marfa, Texas with direction & editing by Emily Esperanza.

Under the Radar premiered the video this morning. UTR’s Caleb Campbell writes:

“Garter Snake” is similarly intimate and lovingly arranged as its predecessor, this time finding Stewart reflecting on impenetrable solitude. They envision themself as a garden snake, unnoticed and “new, alone, and awake.” Stewart’s vocals lilt above gentle fingerpicked guitar, initially solitary, only for keyboards and strings to fall into the track like beams of sunlight, breaking through its isolated facade. Later, Sen Morimoto’s saxophone joins the gorgeous swirl of instrumentation, adding a winding highlight to the track. The result is a work of earthen beauty, filtering Stewart’s loneliness and isolation into naturalistic chamber pop delight.

Macie Stewart will perform two Chicago, IL album release shows at The Hideout Inn on September 23 & 24. Tickets are available HERE.

"Quietly, delicately enrapturing, Dispatches from the Drift was born from a strange world in a strange time but its hard not to feel hope in these sounds; an elegant reminder that magic can always be stirred into existence, no matter the circumstances. 'These found ambient pieces were not edited to feel narrative, and weren’t made with sharing in mind,' O’Neil says in conclusion. 'Use them however you like.'” - GoldFlakePaint

Wedneday- "How Can You Live If You Can't Love How Can You If You Do" Posted 21 Jul 2021

"How Can You Live If You Can't Love How Can You If You Do" is the fourth & final advance single from Wednesday's excellent new album, Twin Plagues (out August 13 on Orindal).

Under the Radar premiered the rodeo-themed music video for "How Can You Live If You Can't Love How Can You If You Do," which is directed by Wednesday's own Karly Hartzman.

Under the Radar's Caleb Campbell writes:

"Unlike the squalling feedback and buzzsaw guitars of their earlier singles, “How Can You Live…” leans into the band’s latent country influences, which often can be found bursting just underneath the surface of their music. Here these influences jump to the fore with keening pedal steel and gently ambling acoustic tones, proving the band doesn’t need to lean on their ‘90s influences to craft a stellar song. The more stripped-back presentation lets the band’s impeccable melodies shine, offering up an absolutely beautiful trip into a love-soaked nostalgic reverie"

Macie Stewart- Mouth Full of Glass album announcement, "Finally" video & single release, & Chicago album release shows Posted 12 Jul 2021

On September 24, Orindal Records will release Mouth Full of Glass, the first solo album by Chicago-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Macie Stewart (pronouns: she/her/they/them). Written and recorded while finding solace and strength in solitude, Mouth Full of Glass features eight lushly arranged songs that search for the meaning of self within and without partnership. The record explores loneliness as well as the growth and beauty that blooms from within it - through creating it, Stewart reassesses her own relationships in order to communicate with a singular voice.

GoldFlakePaint premiered the music video for leadoff track & first single "Finally." GFP's Tom Johnson writes:

"If Stewart’s name rings a bell, it’s because she’s made her name as one half of the Chicago duo Ohmme, who have released two brilliant albums via the Joyful Noise label. Stewart has also spent a number of years as a string arranger, though, and its that lushness, that care of the small surrounding details, that defines her new work and certainly comes to the fore on ‘ Finally‘, where the gently plucked guitar is ordained with colourful, swirling strings... though intricate and intimate, the album still finds plenty of room to bloom."

Macie Stewart will perform two Chicago, IL album release shows at The Hideout Inn on September 23 & 24. Tickets are available HERE.

Wednesday- "One More Last One" Posted 07 Jul 2021

Our thanks to Post-Trash for premiering "One More Last One," the third single & video from Wednesday's forthcoming album, Twin Plagues, out August 13 on Orindal.

From Post-Trash's Dan Goldin:

"'One More Last One' is a new puzzle piece in Wednesday’s growing sound, one that trades in the direct songwriting of Karly Hartzman in favor of the band’s lap steel player, Xandy Chelmis, who wrote and handles lead vocals. The band use the opportunity to go full shoegaze, fully committed to the genre’s best qualities. The static distortion of the guitars comes ripping out the gate, drifting like thick clouds over the otherwise dreamy atmosphere. It’s thick and claustrophobic but full of beauty, as Chelmis’ words float, suspended in air (and feedback), settling into its own space among the wall of guitar noise."

The music video for "One More Last One" was edited & directed by Wednesday bassist Margo Schultz.
